What it is

Six weeks in a robotics shop in Bengaluru, the summer after school ended.

What I did

I upgraded the 3D print farm to run engineering materials — polycarbonate and nylon rather than PLA — which is less about the filament than about everything around it: enclosure temperature, drying, nozzle and hot end capability, and bed adhesion that survives a material that shrinks. I also ran a 5-axis CNC mill machining aluminium robot parts.

This was the first time I worked in a shop where the machines were somebody’s livelihood rather than my hobby, and it is where I stopped thinking of manufacturing as a step after design.
